An expected £15m investment into the NHS is hoped to both improve cancer care and allow for patient diagnosis within 28 days. An NHS reported that this investment could result in saving 30,000 lives by 2020.
Improvement plans for the investment include earlier diagnosis, treatment outcomes, patient experience, patient quality of life, and to target areas for improvement.
Plans for improvement were promoted after a Sky News investigation highlighted radiotherapy machines being used past their sell-by-date, and the NHS' Independent Cancer Taskforce highlighted how the NHS can achieve world-class cancer treatment.
