Chemo to the Rescue
A Children's Book About Leukemia by Mary Brent and Caitlin Knutsson
To help people live better with cancer, we donate $1000 to the American Cancer Society every month.
This inspiring story was co-written by a mother and her daughter who was diagnosed with leukaemia when she was five years old.
The book aims to educate and inform both the child living with cancer, and family and friends; and does so in a friendly and easy to understand way with fun pictures.
Chemo To The Rescue doesn't make cancer seem scary and goes through what a child may experience while living with cancer. It explains in a clear, concise and very literal way, why hair loss occurs, and why chemotherapy, blood tests and all the hospital visits are necessary.
It's also an insightful book to show to friends or classmates of children living with cancer. Chemo To The Rescue explains why it is important for everyone to wash their hands to help their friend keep well, why their friend might miss days from school and, most importantly, not to be afraid.
Why do people living with cancer recommend this product?
"My 5-year-old daughter has Leukemia and she LOVES this book!! It states the facts about Leukemia in a way that kids can easily understand. Also, it helped my other daughter understand what her sister is going through. It goes into what a child may feel everyday living with Chemo, why Chemo is necessary, getting blood check-ups, X-rays, going to the hospital and more! My favorite line is at the end, where it says 'One day I will look back on this time and think: WOW! I did it! And that is something to be proud of', which is such a positive and empowering message to kids".
